Cindy Quayle The Springdale High School wrestling team competed in the Bring the Hammer tournament in Cabot, AR on Dec 16th and 17th. Thirty schools from Arkansas, Missouri, Oklahoma, Texas, Alabama, and Tennessee competed for the hammer on the boys’ side and twenty teams from Arkansas, Missouri, Oklahoma, and Texas wrestled in the girls’ competition.
As billed, the matches were fierce, but the lady Bulldogs had great second place finishes from the junior Laila Brown (#100) and senior Ruby Perez (#235).
Laila just started wrestling this year and lost the final bout to a Texas State Champion.
The lady Bulldogs also had five varsity wrestlers missing due to injuries, and head coach Josh Rivers said that he was looking forward to competing in the next tournament when everyone should be healthy again. Even without these starters, the girls managed to place fifth overall.
