THE RUNDOWN
Ouachita Baptist wrestling, fresh off a 41-10 win over Huntingdon in the Grapple at the Grounds on Thursday, heads to Walnut Ridge to take on Williams Baptist and Lyon on Tuesday. The Tigers racked up five pins against the Hawks.
Freshman Noah Yeamans started the match with a 5-3 decision over Huntindon’s Loki Ryan at 125 pounds. Fellow freshman Evan Kennedy followed with a 17-2 tech fall victory over Tyler Tanaka at 133.
Freshman Jaylon Otero picked up the first pin of the day, putting the shoulders of Derrick Lancero to the mat in just 58 seconds in the 149 pound bout. Chase Howerton pinned Huntingdon’s Kaleb Fontenot at 157 in 2:37. Jackson Carter recorded his second straight pin, defeating Gabriel Pittman in 3:48 at 165.
William Martin won by 7-0 decision at 174 over Kiefer Bangham before Brady Marple secured the fourth Tiger pin of the night over Jayson Spencer at 184. Sophomore Johnny Green pinned Joseph Pearson in 3:52 to close out the match.
SCOUTING THE OPPOSITION
Williams Baptist has lost one dual match since January 9, with that one loss coming to NAIA top-ranked Grand View at the Missouri Valley Invitational. The Eagles boast the two most recent American Midwest Conference Wrestlers of the Week in Nick Souder and Isaiah Vizcarrondo.
Lyon snapped a four-match losing streak Thursday with a win over Central Baptist. The Scots are 2-7 on the season.
