19 Student-Athletes Recognized at Honors Convocation

BATESVILLE, Ark. – Lyon College hosted its annual Honors Convocation on Tuesday afternoon inside Becknell Gymnasium. Several student-athletes were recognized for their accomplishments this year inside the classroom.

A total of 19 Lyon College student-athletes received awards at the Honors Convocation.

Five student-athletes – Kelani Corbett (women’s wrestling), Kendra Davidson (volleyball), Omar Gasmann (men’s wrestling), Blysse Harmon (women’s basketball) and Ashtyn Stevens (women’s wrestling) – were recipients of the Above and Beyond Award for Student Life. Gasmann was also the Business Administration Book Award winner.

Blake Huffman (men’s cross country and track & field), Laura Mendez (cheerleading), Katelyn Platt (softball) and Daisy Connor (women’s cross country and track & field) were all honored with the Student Government Association Annual Leadership Award. Mendez also received the Hall of Leaders Award.

Devin Lipford won the American Chemical Society Organic Chemistry Award, Hunter Perkins won the Perkins Male Calculus Award and Jordan Olivera won the Management Book Award. All three student-athletes are members of the baseball team.

Dimir Leftwich and Ignacio Gomez of the football team were the recipients of the Outstanding Student Leader Award and the Spanish Book Award, respectively.

Raul Gonzalez Jr., from the men’s wrestling team, was recognized as the Involved Student-Athlete of the Year awardee.

Diego Mendez, from the men’s soccer team, was the winner of the Finance Book Award, while Tommy Maloney of the men’s basketball team was the recipient of the Long Bible Award.

Aisha Mahmoud was named as the Emerging Leader Award winner for Student Life, while Claire Coley earned the Libris Award. Both student-athletes are members of the women’s soccer team.
