SAINT CHARLES, Missouri – Jimmy Anderson’s runner-up finish in the 133 freshman/sophomore bracket highlighted Ouachita wrestling’s performances this past Saturday at the Lindenwood Open.
Ouachita’s wrestlers took on opponents from all levels at the event, including multiple matchups against Oklahoma State, one of the top wrestling programs in the nation.
Anderson worked his way through the bracket with a win by decision (2-1), followed by a win by fall (1:55), and then wins by decision in the quarterfinals (11-6) and semifinals (4-1). His only loss came in the finals to Cael Hughes from Oklahoma State in a tech fall (15-0).
Jaylon Otero finished fifth in the 157 open highlighted by three wins over D1 opponents. He started with a 4-1 decision over Gray Ortis from Bellarmine, and then followed by an 8-5 decision over Caine Tyus of SIU Edwardsville. Otero lost in the quarterfinals to Oklahoma State’s Daniel Manibog. In the consolation bracket, he won by major decision 11-3 over Maryville’s Luke Ebers, lost to Oklahoma State’s Jalin Harper (4-0), and then took down Northern Illinois’ Alec Rees in the fifth place match with a close 4-2 decision.
RJ Hild came in seventh in the 285 freshman/sophomore bracket with wins by major decision (9-1), fall (1:30), and by decision in the seventh place match over Bellarmine’s Will Muckler (11-4). His only loss was in the second round to Liberty’s Wade Wheeler in a close 5-3 bout.
The Tigers are off for nearly two weeks before returning to the mats December 2 in Springfield, Missouri at the Drury Open.
