            Conway, Ark. – A busy day in Mustang Athletics began with the American Midwest Conference wrestling championship this morning and culminated in the baseball team finishing a series sweep of Ecclesia. Here’s how the Mustangs fared on this busy Saturday:

WRESTLING

            Two Mustangs, Christian Richer and Brian Mas, finished on the podium at the AMC Championships, with Richer placing second and earning an at-large selection to the NAIA National Tournament on March 4 & 5 at Hartman Arena in Wichita, Kan., and Mas placing third at 149 pounds. Endrick Theodore (141), Alejandro Mas (157 – fifth place), Zideen Ruiz-Zartemi (184 – fourth place), Gregory Pierre-Louis (285 – fifth place) and Dewayne Jennings (285 – sixth place) also competed on the day.

TRACK & FIELD

            Ally Swaim made history today at the AMC Indoor Track & Field Championships, becoming the first indoor conference champion in program history. Swaim won both the 60-meter hurdles and the 200-meter race to win her seventh individual championships overall and first two on the indoor track. Isiaih Patterson, Isaiah Stiger and Jadon Price also competed for the Mustangs, with Patterson and Stiger placing ninth and seventh in the long jump, respectively, and Price placing 13th in the shot put. Swaim will head to South Dakota on March 4 for the NAIA Indoor Track Championship.

SOFTBALL

            #24 CBC swept Bethel this afternoon, winning 7-4 and 9-2. Hannah Work and Averie Ayers both earned victories while Kirstie Blackwood had another huge day at the plate, going 4-6 with three RBIs. CBC is back at City of Colleges Park on Friday and Saturday for a four-game series against Graceland.

BASEBALL

            The Mustangs pounded out 33 hits and 37 runs to finish a sweep of Ecclesia by scores of 17-3 and 20-0. Austin LeJeune, Ben Slate and Jackson Lindsey threw a combined two-hit shutout in game two as CBC finished with 48 runs scored on the weekend. CBC will be back in action at Burns Park in North Little Rock on Tuesday afternoon when they welcome Texas A&M Texarkana to town. First pitch for the single nine-inning contest is scheduled for 2 p.m.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

            Despite 11 points from Railyn Shelvin and 13 rebounds from Aminata Seck, CBC couldn’t close the regular season with a win, falling 60-56 to Harris-Stowe State on the road. The Lady Mustangs will host an AMC Tournament first round game on Monday night, as the number seven seed, when the take on Hannibal-LaGrange with tipoff slated for 7 p.m.

MEN’S BASKETBALL

            A 31-point, 10-rebound double-double from Kelvin Robinson, his third of the season, propelled men’s basketball to a 74-56 win over Harris-Stowe State in the regular season finale. CBC will be the number four seed in the AMC tournament and will host a quarterfinal round game on Thursday night against Williams Baptist with tipoff also scheduled for 7 p.m.
