KANSAS CITY, Missouri – Ouachita’s Jaylon Otero has been selected as the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletic Association Wrestler of the Week.
Otero had a perfect 5-0 week at 157. The junior from Tulsa, Oklahoma started the week with a win by fall (4:27) in a road dual against Carl Albert State, and then remained unbeaten in Poteau with four straight wins this past Saturday at the Viking Open.
At the Viking Open, he earned two wins by fall (6:30 and 1:31) and one win by tech fall (17-2).
Otero is now 8-1 this year with his only loss coming to the second-ranked D2 wrestler in the nation. He and Tigers are back in action on Wednesday night for the team’s first home action of the season in a dual against the University of the Ozarks starting at 6 p.m.
