BATESVILLE, Ark. – The Lyon College men’s wrestling team hosted and competed in a pair of duals on Wednesday afternoon. After a tough battle, the Scots came up short against Oklahoma Wesleyan University and Williams Baptist University.

To start the Scots off on Wednesday night, junior Carlos Cuevas put up three points early in the first dual against Oklahoma Wesleyan’s Andrew Mahoney in the 157-pound weight class. He won the first and third matches to win the dual for the Scots.

Next up, Raul Gonzalez took the mat to face Austin Daniels. Although the Scots saw points added to the scoreboard with Gonzalez’s two takedowns and another by Ariston Bartley, the Scots were edged as the Eagles put up points unanswered by the Scots.

In the next dual against WBU, the Scots were left behind early as they struggled to rack points against the defending AMC Champions.

“It’s a great measuring stick going up against the defending conference champs,” said head coach Chad Cook. “We have a long way to go, but we’re making strides in the right direction.”

To start the night, Oklahoma Wesleyan took on Williams Baptist. Wade Lundrum, Isaiah Vizcarrundo and Nick Souder for WBU all won matches by falls leading to the Eagles’ 32-16 takedown.

Up next, the Scots will travel to Des Moines, Iowa to compete in the Grand View Open. The dual is scheduled to start at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday Nov. 13.
