NAIA Announces National Awards Day Recipients

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics announced its National Awards Day recipients on Wednesday. The day recognizes the association’s highest individual honors and achievements of NAIA student-athletes, administrators and coaches.

The Lyon College men’s and women’s basketball, men’s and women’s golf, men’s and women’s cross country, men’s and women’s track & field, women’s soccer, volleyball and softball programs were all named as NAIA Scholar Team recipients. To be recognized as an NAIA Scholar Team, a program must have a minimum 3.0 grade point average.

The following students were named Daktronics NAIA Scholar-Athlete Award winners for 2020-21. The Daktronics NAIA Scholar-Athlete program recognizes excellence in the classroom for those NAIA student-athletes who are juniors or seniors with an academic standing of a 3.5 or higher cumulative GPA. Students must appear on the eligibility certificate for the sport and have attended two full years as a non-transfer or one full year as a transfer.

Baseball: Jordan Olivera, Brandon Glenn, Joe Weatherford, Devin Lipford, Austin Shipman, Dustin Caplett, Chance Steed, Nicholas Chaney, Stone Peterson and Zach Blake.

Men’s Basketball: Grant Patterson and Faris Verlasevic.

Men’s Cross Country: Blake Huffman.

Men’s Soccer: Marcos Fernandez, Ramon Patino and Diego Mendez.

Men’s Track & Field: Blake Huffman.

Men’s Wrestling: Omar Gasmann.

Softball: Katelyn Platt, Amber McMillan, Addison Harmon, Shyanne Pedroza, Melanie Mooney, Faith Cornmesser and Kassidy Robinson.

Women’s Basketball: Blysse Harmon, Klaudija Bacovic, Haley Wesley and Kristen Baham.

Women’s Golf: Kenzie Collins.

Women’s Soccer: Hailey Gonzales, Hailey Williams, Kate Whitenton.

Women’s Track & Field: Alex Harris.

Volleyball: Kendra Davidson, Kaitlyn Jackson, Levia Taegtmeyer, Cassidy Garrett and Adia Sherbeyn.

Women’s Wrestling: Ashley Whetzal.
