BALDWIN CITY, Kansas – Ouachita wrestlers Jaylon Otero and Donald Paul won their respective weight divisions to lead the Tigers this past Sunday at the Dan Harris Open.
Otero swept through the 157 bracket, earning wins by decision (7-1), major decision (10-2), tech fall in the semifinals (15-0), and decision in the finals (4-0).
Paul and teammate RJ Hild swept through the 285 bracket to meet up in the finals. Paul earned a win decision (4-0) to finish first after also earning wins by decision (7-4), major decision (11-0) and major decision (17-4). Hild had wins by fall (6:01), decision (4-2), and another by fall (4:27) in the semifinals.
Sam Schmidt finished second in the 165 bracket. After a first-round bye, he posted wins by fall (4:09) in the quarterfinals and by sudden victory (8-5) in the semifinals. He lost by fall (5:23) in the finals.
Jimmy Anderson finished third in the 133 bracket with a win by fall in the first round, followed by a loss by major decision in the second round, and then four straight wins, wrapped up with a win by fall at 1:14 in the third-place match.
Hudson Herring also finished third, but in the 141 class. He won his opening round matchup by decision, lost in the semifinals by decision, and then posted wins by tech fall and major decision in the consolation bracket.
Brooks Schrimsher became the sixth Tiger to finish in the top three of their respective weight class with a third-place finish at 197. He started with a win by fall (1:32) before losing by tech fall in the semifinals (20-3). In the consolation semis, he won by major decision (16-6), and won by tech fall (15-0) in the third-place match.

Ouachita is back in action this week with two dates in Poteau, Oklahoma. The Tigers will dual against Carl Albert State on Wednesday, November 8, and then head back on Saturday for the Viking Open.
