OUACHITA LANDS 155 ON GAC ALL-ACADEMIC TEAM

RUSSELLVILLE, Arkansas – The Great American Conference has released its 2022-23 All-Academic Team, which includes a record 1,380 student-athletes combined from the league’s 12 members.

Ouachita Baptist University ranked third in the league with a combined total of 155 student-athletes honored, which is a new school record, up from 143 in the 2021-22 year. The Tigers ranked first in selections from the sports of men’s and women’s cross country this past year.

To make the GAC All-Academic Team, the student-athlete must carry at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average. First-time freshmen are not eligible.

Here’s a look at the sport-by-sport breakdown of Ouachita’s selections for 2022-23, in alphabetical order:

  • Baseball: 16
  • Men’s Basketball: 1
  • Women’s Basketball: 3
  • Men’s Cross Country: 8
  • Women’s Cross Country: 14
  • Football: 28
  • Men’s Soccer: 12
  • Women’s Soccer: 11
  • Softball: 15
  • Men’s Tennis: 5
  • Women’s Tennis: 4
  • Men’s Track & Field: 7
  • Women’s Track & Field: 21
  • Volleyball: 10

In addition to honors handed out by the GAC, six Ouachita wrestling-student athletes made the Great Lakes Valley Conference Academic Honor Roll in the program’s last season as an affiliate member of the league. Ouachita will now compete for wrestling championships in the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association (MIAA).
