The Springdale High School varsity boys wrestling team traveled to Owasso, Oklahoma on January 20th and 21st to compete in the Owasso Rams Duals.
Eight teams from Arkansas, Oklahoma, and Texas wrestled in the event. Although the number of teams that participated in the tournament was smaller than in the past, competing in the duals allowed the Springdale varsity boys to gain valuable experience to improve their level of wrestling.
Unlike other 6A high schools in Northwest Arkansas, Springdale High School starts in 10th grade. As a result, many of the wrestlers on the Springdale team have had only one or two years of wrestling experience.
For many of them, the Rams Duals tournament was the first time that they have wrestled in a competition outside of the state. Assistant Head Coach, Eugene Young, who grew up in Oklahoma and wrestled at the University of Oklahoma told the boys that wrestling in Oklahoma was extremely different than in Arkansas.
