Parish finishes on the podium with two other Scots placing well

Eureka, IL – Scots take center mat at the SLIAC Women’s Wrestling Championships. Kaylei Parish would step foot on the podium with two of her teammates finishing well.

Finishing in third place in the 103-pound weight class, Kaylei Parish had a strong outing against her SLIAC competition. Opening the tournament, Parish would receive a competition bye to get her into the next round. In the semifinals, Parish faced off against a Schreiner University wrestler. Despite her efforts, Schreiner managed to secure a victory by fall at the 1:31 mark, which moved Parish into the consolation side of the bracket. After receiving another bye in the consolation semifinals, Parish found herself in the high-stakes 3rd Place Match, ready to battle for a spot on the podium. The final match saw Parish paired against another Schreiner University athlete. Parish officially claimed the bronze medal after winning by injury default at the 0:00 mark.

Competing in the 117-pound weight class, Rubi Gonzalez misses out on the podium by placing fourth in her class. Gonzalez’s day began in the quarterfinals, where she received an initial bye to move into the championship semifinals. In that round, she squared off against a Huntingdon College Wrestler. Her opponent managed to secure the win by fall at the 1:54 mark, sending Gonzalez to the consolation side of the bracket. After receiving a second bye in the consolation semifinals, Gonzalez advanced directly into the 3rd Place Match to fight for a spot on the podium. In the bronze medal bout, she faced a Schreiner University athlete. Schreiner would win by fall in 0:27.

In the 160-pound division, Catherine Paz Garcia of Lyon College faced a demanding slate of competition, ultimately finishing the tournament in 6th place. Her tournament began in the quarterfinals against a Schreiner University wrestler. Her opponent was able to secure a quick victory, winning by fall in just 52 seconds. Following a bye in the first round of consolations, Garcia moved into the consolation semifinals to face a Huntingdon College wrestler. Huntingdon eventually secured the win by fall at the 5:50 mark. In her final appearance of the day, Garcia competed in the 5th Place Match against a Eureka College athlete. Garcia’s opponent took the victory by fall in 1:57.
