Springdale High School brought seventeen girls to Jay Border Wars and bring home medals

Springdale High School brought seventeen girls to the Jay Border Wars in Jay, Oklahoma on December 2nd and 3rd.

The two-day tournament brought together twenty-three schools from the neighboring states of Arkansas, Missouri, and Texas.

The lady Bulldogs had eight wrestlers who placed in the top six with impressive matches from newcomer Austin Lailson-Ingram earning third and Bulldog senior Ruby Perez winning her championship match with a pin in the final second of the third period.

Last year Ruby was plagued by injuries, but this year, she hopes to cap her high school wrestling career by winning the Arkansas State Tournament in February.

The Jay Border Wars was the second tournament of the season for the girls’ varsity team with the wrestlers showing progress in their training. In this tournament the girls won with thirty pins compared to the twenty-seven pins from their first tournament.
