FULTON, Missouri – On Sunday, November 5th, the Men’s Wrestling team faced off against the Westminster College Blue Jays in a team dual in Fulton, MO. This was the first competition of the season for the Lyon College Men’s Wrestling team.
The Scots fell short of a victory over the Blue Jays, but nonetheless the head coach for the Scots, Zach Mizer, is eager for the rest of the season.
“A couple matches I thought we should have won got away from us,” Mizer said. “But it’s a long season and we have a lot of time left to improve and fix our mistakes.”
The Scots presented a fairly young team on Sunday with all who wrestled being either freshmen or sophomores. Freshmen Jacob Kehrer and Justin Maguire got their first taste of the college wrestling scene as they stepped out on the mat for the first time as Fighting Scots. Ty Ferguson and Liam Selhorst received forfeits in their respective weight classes contributing 6 points each to team’s overall total.
The Men’s Wrestling team will return to action Saturday, November 11th in Poteau, Oklahoma where they will compete in the Viking Open.
“We are going to have to show up every match and fight hard for 7 minutes,” said Coach Mizer. “I’m looking forward to a good week of practice and testing ourselves at our first tournament of the year.”
