SAINT CHARLES, Missouri – The Women’s Wrestling team competed in a dual tournament hosted by Lindenwood University. The Scots were able to secure some success over some match ups though they were short a full line up.
Priscilla Luevano, a junior from San Juan, TX, stepped out on to the mat for the first time this season. Luevano received a forfeit in the Scots first dual meet of the day against Jarvis Christian College then ultimately fell to her opponent from Quincy College in the team’s second dual. Not letting that match get the best of her, Luevano continued on to win the next three matches she would compete in contributing valuable points to her team’s overall score.
The Scots went head to head with two fellow SLIAC members. In the third round of the dual tournament the Scots went up against Fontbonne University where they defeated the Griffins 25-10. The Scots are set to take on the Griffins in another dual on January 5, 2024 in Becknell Gymnasium. The second SLIAC team the Scots went up against was Eureka College. The team from Eureka, IL bested the Scots 35-8. Both teams are scheduled to face off in anther dual January 27th hosted by Eureka College.
Coach Shawn Contos is proud of the progress his team is making though he recognizes there is still a long way to go for the predominately freshmen team.
The Lyon College Women’s Wrestling team will be back on the mats in Hay, KS for the Bob Smith Open on December 2nd. The tournament will be hosted by Fort Hays University.
