Two Trojans Take Titles, Little Rock Finishes Second as a Team at Tiger Style Invitational

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Little Rock wrestling fans, welcome to tournament season. The Trojans showed up to the Tiger Style Invitational this weekend to let the competition know what Trojan Style has become, which involved two first-place individual wins from Nasir Bailey and Stephen Little as well as an overall second-place team finish.

Little Rock as a whole out-performed Big10 school Maryland, Pac-12 foes Cal Poly, and familiar faces SIUE and Lindenwood, finishing less than 40 points behind host team, #4 nationally ranked Missouri. The second place team standing is the highest finish that the Trojans have put together in program history and the first time that two Trojans have come home with individual titles, after Little and Bailey claimed upset wins during the finals.

“Great finish to our tournament,” said head coach Neil Erisman. “Along with our two champions and three finalists, another seven wrestled for 3rd. The results were great, but honestly did not really reflect what we are are capable of. We left a lot of points out on the mat. But overall, a good showing and great start to our season.” 

After a season where Stephen Little saw chances to make some appearances in the Little Rock lineup without pulling his redshirt, he is now ready to bear the weight of full-time starter at 197 pounds. Taking the title in that weight class with a ranked upset win over #8 Jaxon Smith from Maryland in the finals, it’s a role that Little looks entirely prepared for.

The program’s highest-ranked recruit to ever commit to the Trojans, true freshman Nasir Bailey competed in a Little Rock singlet for the first time this weekend and made the maroon and silver proud. At 133 pounds, he took out #28 Zeke Seltzer from Missouri for an exciting 8-5 overtime victory to begin his Trojan career on top of the tournament bracket.

Brendon Abdon also represented Little Rock in the finals. The redshirt freshman competed at 165 pounds, with his only loss of the day coming from #1 ranked Keegan O’Toole.
