EUREKA, Illinois – Rubi Gonzalez and Mikayla Wallace finished first in their respective weight classes to lead the Lyon College Women’s Wrestling Scots to a third place finish at the SLIAC Championships in Eureka, Illinois on Friday.
Lyon College, coached by former Scots’ wrestler Emma de Brum, amassed 52 points to take third behind
1. Schreiner University, Texas – 166
2. Eureka College – 131
3. Lyon College – 52
4. Fontbonne University – 41
5. Westminster – 34.0
6. University of the Ozarks – 0
Gonzalez won the college women’s 109 class with a win by fall over Gada Bryant of Eureka. (Fall 2:54)
Wallace won first place in the college women’s 136 class. Wallace won by fall over Abby Love of Fontbonne University (Fall 4:17)
Wallace won by tech fall over Lila Eckert of Westminster (TF 12-2)
And in the championship match, Wallace took the win over Natallie Tobuk of Eureka by a fall. (Fall 5:28)
Priscilla Luevano, fourth overall, wrestled the college women’s 143 class and was defeated by Anna Stephens of Westminster in the semifinals by a technical fall (TF 10-0).
Luevano won by decision over Madisen Nash of Lyon College in a (Dec 5-1).
And in the third place match, Maya Khabbaz won by decision over Luevano (Dec 9-4).
Madison Nash wrestled in the college women’s 143 class and finished fifth. She lost a fall to Maya Khabbaz in the quarterfinals (Fall 2:00)
In the consolation round 1 – Nash received a bye and then lost by decision to Luevano and received a bye for the fifth place match.
