POTEAU, Oklahoma – The women’s wrestling team competed in the Viking Open hosted by Carl Albert State College. A total of 14 teams competed in the open. The Scots finished with two 5th place finishers, Mikayla Wallace and Sidney Milligan

Wallace rebounded after she dropped her first match of the tournament with two pins in the second and third consolation rounds. She continued to fight hard and ended her day in fifth place in the 136 pound weight class. Mikayla won by decision over Oklahoma City University’s Morgan Mackey in the Fifth Place Bout.

Freshman, Sidney Milligan, started her day on a high note. Milligan won by tech fall in her first match which then projected her into the quarterfinals, where she pinned her opponent. She ultimately fell in the semifinals and consolation semifinals, but was able to battle back for a fifth place finish in the 155 pound weight class.

Coach Contos felt like it was a tough test in the early season for his young team, and is looking to see how the wrestlers come back next week after some adversity in Oklahoma. Overall it was a good learning experience, and the team will continue to make progress.

The Scots will be traveling to St. Charles, MO to compete next in the Lindenwood Open on 11/19.
