LITTLE ROCK – The Little Rock wrestling team has cemented itself as a top-5 program outside of the Power 5, landing at number four in the first NWCA Division I Men’s Wrestling Mid-Major Coaches Poll of the season. It is the first time that the program has checked in within the top 5 of the Mid-Major poll, which is released three times per season.

The poll is based on dual meet results and represents schools that are in not full members in all-sports conferences considered the Power 5. Since the Trojans are only affiliates of the Pac-12 in wrestling and the Little Rock Athletics department resides in the Ohio Valley Conference as a school, Little Rock wrestling qualifies for the Mid-Major poll. Other programs represented in the poll include Northern Iowa at no. 5, Lehigh at no. 3, South Dakota State at no. 2 and Cornell at the top.

It is another testimony to the hard work that head coach Neil Erisman and his staff have turned in over the years. Last season, the Trojans came in at no. 15 in the Mid-Major poll for the first time. A year later, the team is not just within the top five, but Little Rock wrestling has risen to 20th in the nation overall after taking down the formerly #16 and #24 teams over the past two weeks of competition.

If you’re a fan, mark your calendars for two more home events left on the schedule and Pack the Jack to support your Trojans. The team will celebrate Senior Day this Saturday, February 3 at noon before hosting a tri-dual on Sunday, Feb. 11.
