OTERO LEADS TIGERS AT DRURY OPEN

SPRINGFIELD, Missouri – The Ouachita wrestling team posted five top four finishes and combined for 33 total wins on Saturday at the Drury Open, highlighted by Jaylon Otero sweeping through the 157 bracket for first place.

Otero’s 5-0 sweep featured three wins by decision, one tech fall, and one pin. He defeated unattached wrestler Layton Schneider in the finals by a 4-2 decision.

Jimmy Anderson finished as the runner-up in the 133 bracket with a win by fall and two wins by decision, including a close 5-3 win in the semifinals over Central Oklahoma’s Eli Kirk. Anderson had a hard-fought bout in the finals, but ended up falling to UCO’s Peter Rolle in a 9-2 decision.

Brooks Schrimsher also turned in a runner-up finish, winning his first two bouts in the 197 bracket by tech fall before falling to UCO’s Emmanuel Skillings in a close 11-7 decision.

Parker Henry finished third in the 197 bracket with two major decision victories and a win by decision. He defeated Northeastern Oklahoma A&M’s Sam Murphy in the third place bout by a 5-1 decision.

Caleb Andrews finished fourth in the 149 bracket with a win by fall, a win by sudden victory, and a win by medical forfeit.

The rest of the Tiger field combined for 17 wins, including a sixth place finish for Brayden Cash in the 133 bracket.

Ouachita fans have one more chance to the see the Tigers in action at home this next Wednesday, November 20 in a dual against the University of the Ozarks. Senior night recognition will start at 5:45 p.m. with the dual to follow.
