LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – The Trojans never gave up hope this year. Little Rock rallied over the second half of the year to win the Governor’s I-40 Showdown title presented by Arkansas Blue Cross Blue Shield, 23-20, following baseball’s sweep of Central Arkansas on Tuesday.

Little Rock had trailed 20-2 in the annual bragging rights battle between the Trojans and UCA. Now the trophy is heading to the Capital City.

It started on Dec. 20 when Darrell Walker‘s team rolled to a 75-66 win over UCA. Both the men’s and women’s indoor track and field programs scored wins at the Arkansas Invitational on Jan. 13 before Chris Curry and the Trojan Nine walked off UCA in a 3-2 decision at Gary Hogan Field on Mar. 7.

The run continued on Apr. 7 when the Trojan track and field programs swept UCA at the Little Rock Invitational. Then Curry’s squad struck twice – first with an 8-2 win over UCA in Conway to bring the series battle even at 20-20. Finally, on Tuesday, the Trojans struck again with an 8-3 win over UCA at Dickey-Stephens Park.

Little Rock’s only points scored prior to Dec. 20 was when the Trojan men’s golf team – which advanced to the NCAA Regionals for the third consecutive year – easily topped UCA, 880-914, at the Little Rock Invitational.

UCA did not score any points in the showdown after Dec. 3.

This marks the first year Little Rock has won the bragging rights competition, although the Trojans had a lead in the battle when the COVID-19 pandemic canceled the 2019-20 battle.
