OTERO NAMED MIAA WRESTLER OF THE WEEK

KANSAS CITY, Missouri – Following an undefeated week, Ouachita’s Jaylon Otero has been selected as the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association Wrestler of the Week.

Otero went 6-0 for the week at 157, including a win in a dual victory over Williams Baptist at home on Wednesday and then a 5-0 sweep through the bracket at the Drury Open on Saturday.

The graduate student from Tulsa, Oklahoma started the week with two wins in the Tigers home dual with Williams Baptist, winning win by forfeit in the varsity bout and then pinning his opponent in 2:52 in an extra matchup.

On Saturday in the Drury Open, Otero earned three wins by decision, one tech fall, and one pin in route to a first-place finish. In the finals, he earned a 4-2 win by decision over Layton Schneider, an unattached wrestler from Oklahoma.

Otero and the Tigers are set for their final home event of the season, taking on Central Baptist College on Wednesday for Senior Night. The dual is set for a 6 p.m. start. The team’s seniors will be recognized at 5:45 p.m.
