WICHITA, Kansas – The Ouachita wrestling team came up short with close scores in matchups against Newman, Sioux Falls, and Drury on Saturday at the Jet Duals.
The Tigers started the day with a 23-21 loss to Newman, followed by a 24-17 setback to Sioux Falls, and finally a 24-19 loss to Drury.
Jaylon Otero and Parker Henry led the Tigers, both going 3-0 in their respective weight classes.
At 157, Otero started with a 6-3 decision over Newman’s Hunter Dietrich, and then earned a 17-5 major over USF’s Lincoln Fink before finishing his sweep with a 8-0 major over Drury’s Joe Kuster.
At 197, Henry was up 6-0 over Newman’s Erik Tomanek before getting a late pin in the second period at 4:59. Henry then earned an 8-0 major over USF’s Stetson Davis before closing the day with a win by injury over Drury’s Wade Stanton after going up 6-0 in the first period.
BK Seago went 2-1, including a 5-1 decision over USF’s Isaiah Laguna and another 5-1 decision over Drury’s Jack Stoffel.
Among the Tigers with one win during the three matches, Luke Brooks earned a win by fall in 4:57 against Newman’s Chris Mapp in the 174 bout.
The Tigers will be back in action on February 1 at the NEO Golden Norsemen Open in Miami, Oklahoma.
