EVANSTON, Ill. – Little Rock walked out of Welsh-Ryan Arena in Evanston, Illinois, with another dual victory, defeating the Wildcats 29-10. The Trojans went 7-3 on the day, securing two pins and a tech fall.
Little Rock got off to a hot start as Reid Nelson kicked off the action with a decision victory over Dedrick Navarro, 9-4, to put the Trojans up 3-0. Nasir Bailey then took to the mat and showcased his dominance, earning a tech fall victory, 21-5.
With an 8-0 lead, Jayden Gomez faced #10 Christopher Cannon. Cannon seemed poised to score for the Wildcats until Gomez secured a stunning pin with time winding down in the second period. Gomez’s upset victory extended the Trojans’ lead to 14-0 heading into the 149-pound weight class.
Brennan Van Hoecke followed up with another upset, defeating #20 Sam Cartella in a tightly contested 3-2 decision. This win pushed Little Rock’s lead to 17-0.
The Wildcats bounced back with victories from #11 Trevor Chumbley at 157 and #16 Maxx Mayfield at 165, narrowing the score to 17-7. However, #29 Tyler Brennan shifted the momentum back to Little Rock with a 6-3 decision over Northwestern’s Joseph Martin. #17 Brock DelSignore added three more points for the Trojans with a hard-fought 2-1 decision over Jon Halvorsen.
The most anticipated match of the day followed, as #5 Stephen faced #24 Evan Bates in a clash of ranked opponents. Stephen lived up to his billing, securing a second-round pin to push Little Rock’s lead to 29-7. Northwestern added a final three points with a victory in the last match, as Dirk Morley defeated Apollo Gothard.
The Trojans’ strong performance, including key upsets and dominant finishes, reflects their growing momentum this season. With this impressive dual win, Little Rock continues to establish itself as a force to be reckoned with.
Little Rock returns to action after enjoying a break for Thanksgiving December 7th at the Cougar Class hosted by SIUE and back at the Jack on December 8th against Central Michigan.
